Story

History

Sweeney Barn began its history circa 1939 as a one-story dairy barn with a hayloft. Owned by the Birkett family, the barn originally housed cows waiting to be milked as Prince William County’s dairy industry boomed in the early 20th century. Newly restored as a weddings and events venue, the barn’s rich history and rustic setting will create the perfect experience for you and your special guests. Stunning original architecture meets modern design and technology to give your event a unique elegance captured only at Sweeney Barn.

Owners

Alannah and Noel Sweeney are avid barn lovers and have a personal passion for bringing old properties back to life. They fell in love with this barn the first time they saw it and the surrounding property. They have done their very best to maintain the look and feel of the new barn by incorporating and reusing as much of the old material from the barn as possible during the renovation. We sincerely hope that you enjoy the barn and the surrounding property, and our hope is that you get to share this memory on your special day and bring that memory of the barn and older times with you. Noel and Alannah live in Clifton, VA with their three children Johnny, Maeve and Conor.

General Manager

Andrea Van Wambeke was part of the Sweeney Barn team even before ground broke for renovations. Formerly an event planner in DC, she combines her industry experience with a genuine love for historic buildings in a more rural setting. Born in Prince William County, Andrea is excited to host weddings and events in the area where she grew up. Sweeney Barn holds a special place in her heart that she looks forward to sharing with others.
